Impact Funding
In order to insure that our donors’ dollars are being used in the best possible way, the Piqua Area United Way has chosen to move from the agency funding model (being a fundraiser for our member agencies) to Community Impact Funding (being a problem solver).
The Agency Funding model was a model successfully used by United Ways for many years and involved allocating funds to a member agency that would then spend the money at their discretion. With the advent of more and more health and human service agencies and the requests of large donors for more assurance that their dollars were affecting change, the Community Impact Funding model was created. In the Community Impact Funding model, the focus shifts from the agency as a whole to programs within an agency that are addressing needs in the community that are identified by the community. The programs must be able to demonstrate the ability to make change (or impact) in the lives of the program participants.
The Piqua Area United Way began the transition to Community Impact Funding in 2005.
